It is with great sadness that we heard of the death of Mike Baker on 12th March 2020 at the BRI. I first met Mike Baker around twenty years ago when he was leading a local history walk around Easton with fellow historian Jim McNeil. The new plaque for the Seven Stars is progressing well and is due to go to the foundry next Tuesday. Below is a photo of the plaque in Mike Baker's workshop. A day of festivities has been planned at the Seven Stars for Friday 1st May 2009 with the plaque being unveiled at 12:30pm and a 'wet the plaques head' party in the evening. Bristol Radical History Group are currently raising money to pay for a new plaque on the Seven Stars Pub in Redcliffe. The Seven Stars is a landmark in the abolition of slavery and where Thomas Clarkson began his research into the conditions on transatlantic slave ships. The fund raising has reached a point where Mike Baker has been able to start work on the mould. Alex Milne went down to Mike's workshop and interviewed Mike as he worked.
