Stuart Butler’s claim to fame is that he was allegedly the first baby to be born at home in a prefab in Swindon. But Stuart is truly known for his radical history walks, slipping down wormholes of time, with an emphasis on footprints and footpaths rather than footnotes. He is the organiser of Radical Stroud and has lived in Gloucestershire for nearly fifty years. He was a founder member of the Stroud Football Poets with the legendary Dennis Gould and now plays for the Stroud Walking Football Club. Stuart is a retired teacher, having taught in Gloucestershire schools for over forty years and was a member of the NUT throughout that long time. He was undecided as to whether to choose Stroud or Swindon for his talk, but Swindon’s General Strike story is too fascinating to ignore.
