\"\"<\/a>From Saturday September 9th<\/b>, the Remembering The Real World War 1<\/a> group<\/b> are presenting an exhibition \u2018Refusing To Kill \u2013 Bristol\u2019s World War 1 Conscientious Objectors<\/b>\u2018 in Bristol Cathedral<\/b> on College Green. The exhibition will run until early January.
\n<\/b><\/span><\/u><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span>Over 350 men from the Bristol area refused to fight in World War 1. They claimed the status of conscientious objector for moral, religious or political reasons. Some agreed to take non-military roles. Others spent much of the war in prison, often under harsh conditions.
\n<\/b><\/span><\/u><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span>A largely untold part of Bristol\u2019s World War 1 history \u2013 this exhibition tells the stories of these men and the people in the city who supported them. Rarely seen documents will be displayed together with photographs, letters from COs and artefacts.
\n<\/b><\/span><\/u><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span>The exhibition will look at Why Conscription Was Introduced<\/b>; What was a CO<\/b>; Attitudes to COs \u2013 from government, churches, military, public<\/b>; Local Networks Of Support<\/b>; and the Long Term Effect of WW1 COs <\/b>up to present day.
\n<\/b><\/span><\/u><\/span>
