The Women For Life on Earth <\/em>march took place in 1982 and as we pass 2022, 40 years later we are drawn back to the work of Monica Sj\u00f6\u00f6, artist, activist and writer, who continued to hope that the struggle, courage and sacrifices, particularly of women imbued with Her <\/em>trust in the Goddess would make the difference to our protection of Gaia, our Earth Mother.<\/p>\n

Monica was a Swedish born visual artist, resident in Bristol and her paintings and writing were foundational to the development of feminist art in Britain, beginning at the time of the women\u2019s liberation movement around 1970. A Blue Plaque (Green in Bristol!) was dedicated to her in November last year marking her residency in the city, in Princess Victoria Street, Clifton Village, known as Bristol\u2019s Bohemia in the 60s and 70s.<\/p>\n

Her legacy work is held by the Family Estate in Bristol and at Feminist Archive South<\/em> (FAS) as part of the University of Bristol Library\u2019s Special Collections. In this talk we celebrate her life and work and open up her legacy as a Bristol artist in a city she both lived and worked in, contributing to its socio \u2013 political history.<\/p>\n
