It is a film about life under the regime of terror in Myanmar since February 1st<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> 2021, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>told through personal stories by a group of anonymous young Burmese filmmakers <\/b><em>(the Myanmar Film Collective<b>)<\/b><\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">This is the second annual event at the Cube, following on from last year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brh.org.uk\/site\/events\/a-night-of-solidarity-with-myanmar\/\">A night of solidarity with Myanmar<\/a>, organised by Bristolians, solidarity activists and people from Myanmar living in exile \u2013 who are a part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/449747049673505\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><i>With Myanmar<\/i><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> Facebook group<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">, which works to raise awareness and fundraise for groups in Myanmar.<br \/>\nAt the event there will Burmese street food for sale to raise money for good causes in Myanmar. The film will be followed by a Q &amp; A with a leading Myanmar activist, and discussion. The following text is taken from the campaign group\u2019s Press Release dated 1.2.23:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>Myanmar Diaries<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> is ten short films by young Burmese filmmakers, combined with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>emotionally harrowing citizen journalism documenting the junta\u2019s brutality<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, as well as the courageous resistance to it. This is an important film showing at a time when Myanmar has almost disappeared from the news headlines around the world. It has been run by the military since 1962 with many uprisings since then. A brief spell of quasi-democracy during the much lauded \u2018transition\u2019 of 2010-2020 ended when <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>the military staged a coup on the eve of the second term of the freely elected government, on 1st February 2021<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">In the first weeks after the coup there was <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>an extraordinary flowering of creative and impassioned mass protests across the country involving many millions of people<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">. Unlike previous uprisings, this time young people have had a taste of freedom, better connections, and mutual understanding with the ethnic groups who have been fighting the army for decades.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>These young people, from all nationalities and religions, will not give up their dreams of a federal democratic Myanmar \u2013 the only future they want <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">&#8211; and many have joined the armed resistance, underground disrupters, and diaspora groups raising funds for their comrades in Myanmar.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">In the two years since the coup, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>19,000 people have been murdered<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> (many in airstrikes by the military), <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>over two million people are homeless<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> (having had their homes burned down by the military, or fleeing the fighting) and <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>13,642 people are rotting in jails<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> (<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><span lang=\"zxx\"><u><a class=\"western\" href=\"https:\/\/acleddata.com\/conflict-severity-index\/\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">https:\/\/acleddata.com\/conflict-severity-index\/<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> and <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><span lang=\"zxx\"><u><a class=\"western\" href=\"https:\/\/aappb.org\/\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">https:\/\/aappb.org\/<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> ).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Two activists (so far) have been executed, while 12 others face the same fate<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.
