This year\u2019s programme combines urgent contemporary political subjects with an eclectic mix of archive gems, including a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Paris Commune with the rarely screened <strong><em>La Commune<\/em><\/strong>, and an urgent focus on Black UK deaths in police\u00a0 custody,<strong> <em>Ultraviolence<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15608 img-responsive aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brh.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ultraviolence-2020-604x340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"428\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brh.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ultraviolence-2020-604x340.jpg 604w, https:\/\/www.brh.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ultraviolence-2020-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.brh.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ultraviolence-2020-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.brh.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ultraviolence-2020-100x56.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.brh.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ultraviolence-2020-270x152.jpg 270w, https:\/\/www.brh.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ultraviolence-2020-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.brh.org.uk\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ultraviolence-2020.jpg 1504w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 428px) 100vw, 428px\" \/><br \/>\nIreland features prominently this year, screening both <strong><em>The 8th<\/em> <\/strong>which focuses on the successful campaign to approve abortion, and <strong><em>The Lonely Battle of Thomas Reid<\/em><\/strong> who successfully fought against the forced selling of his farm to make way for a new factory. Hidden struggles and stories of collective support\u00a0 feature in<em><strong> Caught<\/strong>,<\/em> a film on how a community of trans Latina migrants in Queens, New York support and rely on each other. Watkins is<br \/>\nbest known for his 1966 film <em>The War Game<\/em>, a meticulously researched drama documentary into the devastating impact that a nuclear strike would have on the UK, made by the BBC, and subsequently banned by the UK government. <strong><em>La Commune<\/em><\/strong>, made in 2000, celebrates the moment in which the ordinary people of Paris seized power, introduced local elections, and formed an alternative government.
