This history walk in Bristol City centre uncovers a 1,000 year history of resistance to slavery.<\/p>\n

Starting with Bristol’s first abolitionist Saint Wulfstan and the Bristol ‘mob’ in the eleventh century this walk charts the networks of religious and political activists who led popular campaigns against slavery. From the non-conformists and radical currents in the English Revolution in the seventeenth century to the successful abolitionist campaigns against the transatlantic slave trade and the emancipation struggles in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, we look at the differing approaches of radicals and reformists. Finally we consider the solidarity between Bristolian abolitionists and their counterparts in the USA in the struggle to liberate more than three million enslaved African-Americans in the Victorian period.<\/p>\n
